SECOND BRAIN5 MIN

'Second brain' started as a productivity hack. Companies need the industrial version.

The phrase 'second brain' comes from the personal productivity world. Tiago Forte built a whole method around it: stop trusting your memory, capture everything in a system, let the system do the remembering. Millions of people now keep their lives in Notion or Obsidian because of some version of that idea.

The idea is right, and it applies to companies with more force than it applies to individuals. A person who forgets something can usually reconstruct it. A company that forgets something pays for it twice: once when the person who knew it leaves, and again when someone spends a month rediscovering it. Ask anyone who has inherited a client account with no handover notes.

But you can't scale a notes app into a company brain, and it's worth being honest about why. Personal systems assume one reader who is allowed to see everything. A company system has to know that the CFO's compensation file and the intern's onboarding doc are not equally visible, and it has to prove that it knows, in writing, to an auditor.

Personal systems also assume the owner does the filing. Nobody at a 400-person company is going to tag documents for the common good. The capture has to be automatic, straight from the systems where work already happens, or the brain starves within a quarter.

So when we say IINDBRAIN is a second brain for companies, the emphasis is on the industrial part: automatic capture, permission-aware answers, citations an auditor can follow. The productivity people found the right idea. It just needs plumbing they never had to think about.
